More on Sidmouth Folk Week
August 16th, 2006
This was written at Sidmouth but I couldnt get it to post.
I’ve spoken to a few more people here who are all season ticket holders and they say they are having trouble getting into a few of the concerts. The programme explains that entry to the events is advance event ticket holders (i.e. people who have paid separately for the event) first, then season ticket holders, if anything left then they can be sold on the door.
But the smaller places appear to have sold a large proportion of event tickets and the season ticket holders aren’t getting in. Apparantly there was some pushing and shouting at a couple of the events, so maybe the folkies do need bouncers
Also one of these season ticket holders was told she has to buy a weekly bus ticket (£18) so she did, although other people haven’t. Nobody seems to know whats going on here.
Still it doesn’t bother me, being a refusnik. I payed £2 today to take the bus to Waitrose and stocked up on food and cider. Sorry Sidmouth but I’m not paying the extra £18 to go into your town and spend my money there. Not that £18 is a massively high cost, just that I’d like to know about it before I turn up, doing it this way is just wrong. I don’t think I will go back into town now, might just have a couple of evenings up at the Bulverton Marquee.
By the way when I booked the ticket over the phone, I asked if I should pay the ‘Caravan Supplement’ that was mentioned on the website and booking form. Turns out I should have, but campers/motorhomes got an exception because so many didn’t pay it as it says ‘Caravan’ on the form. Doh!
Later on in the week the fence around the campsite kept falling down. Thursday I think it was down all day, I eventually told the campsite office around 6pm. I never saw what time it got fixed, but instead of fixing it properly, a gap between two of the wire panels was fixed with… string! Very secure.
